Sat 13th May 2005 saw the 2nd annual Dub vs BT "old boys" football game. Speculation was rife in the BT changing room that after a disappointing season, Dub were there for the taking. Dub management also showed a little less confidence than last year by not pre-engraving the winner's trophy. BT were given the Dub "away" kit to play in, which luckily had several pairs of XXXL waistband shorts, though even these looked like lycra cycling shorts on some of the better fed BT players.
Dub started on the back foot, as BT used their age and experience to good effect by creating several good oppotunities to score in the opening minutes, foiled only by The Bitch, who had been relegated to goals after bitching too much in the warm-up. Sterling performances from some of the mainstays of the old Dunmurry league kept the pressure firmly on BT for the entire half. Flynn showed he was still quite capable of getting man and ball, while Collie delicately tip-toed round bemused Dub players, before having a quick puke on the sidelines after his extertions. At one stage, that most uncommon of events, a Ward header, was clearly seen by at least 4 people in the BT box. BT did everything except score and left the field disappointed 0-0 at half time.
The second half saw an improvement from Dub. BT tired a bit, but fresh legs in the from of Locky (well as fresh as you can get after been out to 5am) kept the game evenly balanced. However, BT contained their younger rivals well, and created their own chances - coming closest when a header hit the post. However, Dub's luck saw them through, and when a cross-shot from 6-goals-all-season Kernan just dipped beneath the crossbar to put them in the lead, BT sensed it just wasn't going to be their day. Even Quinn's outrageous farting couldn't get BT a goal. Full time 1-0 and Dub retained their trophy.
Drinking back in the Rose and Crown remained remarkably civilised until the return after the end of season meal. Dub players then mysterious thought they could sing and karaoked until they were kicked out.
