Dub F.C.'s new start to the season was spoilt by a virtuoso display from the Newlodge Celtic number 10 which saw him score a hat trick in a 4-0 reverse for Dub.

Despite the scoreline, Dub's new look/old look management team can at least take solace from an encouraging display from the Dub side.

The game got under way in weather conditions made for football, on a pitch which was clearly not. The early pressure came from Newlodge as they tried to impose themselves on Dub from the off. After a slow start however, Dub got up to speed, especially once McCusker and McCann got a hold on midfield.

Nevertheless it was Newlodge who struck first, half way through the first half. A neat build up broke down on the edge of the Dub box, but Collins broke free of an anonymous Dub fullback who was caught ball watching and fired past the otherwise impressive Gillen.

A second goal followed for Newlodge shortly thereafter as a cross came in from the right and a header from a Newlodge player was deflected into the Dub net. Dub battled hard up to the break with both Doherty and Price providing good width to the Dub attacks. Some useful football saw Dub create some pressure, but only one real chance. This fell to Kernan when he was played through by Hodgkinson. Finding himself with a little time and space on the right hand side of the Newldoge penalty area Kernan elected to shoot, unfortunately straight at the keeper. Hodgkinson, who had embarked on a lung-bursting 3 yard sprint to take the return, was unimpressed.

Halftime came and went and as it wore on Dub came more and more into the game. Their impressive midfield was assisted by the introduction of Duffy and McToal, and supported by full backs Rendall and Murphy. Up front Kernan and Hodgkinson continued to cause problems. A couple of the better Dub moves ended in fine shots by McCann from just outside the box, all well saved by the Newlodge keeper.

Just when it seemed Dub might make the breakthrough, so came the sucker punch. A soft goal - with Dub's offside defensive line about as straight as Graham Norton, Collins found time and space in the box to slot home.

Dub lost momentum after the third goal but continued to press hard. But it was Newlodge who scored another when an ill-directed header from Murphy went straight to the feet of that man Collins. He took take two touches before shooting past Gillen from just outside the box.

The scoreline was a little harsh on Dub, but they can look on the bright side - played one, lost one, goals scored zero, goals conceded four. Man of the Match - Gareth Dixon: Managed to get himself in the right places at the right times. Handled Collins expertly - "Harvey, you take number 10!"
