Dub played their final game of the season on Sunday looking to end the season on a high with victory over arch rivals Boca Seniors.
The game was in doubt with three of Ormeau Park's pitches being deemed unplayable by the respective match referees. Fortunately, with both Dub and Boca anxious to play, a pitch became available and the game went ahead as planned.
Dub managed to scrape 11 players together before hand and the game started brightly. A few runs from O'Reilly had Boca on the back foot, and ultimately from one of these breaks saw O' Reilly break the deadlock with a BRILLIANT run and finish from a through ball expertly delivered by Smyth.
Boca woke from their slumber and put Dub under pressure with a series of corners. In fact they were unlucky not to equilise when a powerful shot was cleared off the line.
However it was Dub who secured the second goal when a long through ball from De Faoite found Kernan running through on goal. With the keeper rushing out Kernan coolly lobbed ball goalwards, only for it to land on the flooded goaline. However Cormac was on hand to finish it off and put Dub into a 2 - 0 lead.
Little pressure followed from Boca, but they pulled a goal back when a long throw in was flicked on and was fi nished off by the on rushing striker.
No score was added until ten mins into the second half when a through ball from McCann sent man-of-the-match Kernan through on the keeper and he made no mistake drilling it low to the keepers left to make the scoreline read 3 - 1.
Further chances were subsequently squandered by Dub with a McCann free kick the closest they came to adding to their tally. Boca came back strongly in the last 20 mins pulling a goal back from yet another long throw. That set up an exciting finish to the game and Boca were to equilise with 5 minutes left when a seemingly blatant foul on Dub Keeper Gillen going unpunished, allowing the Boca striker an open goal.
If Dub were cursing the referee at that decision, they were to be grateful to the referee for twice ruling out two Boca headers in the final moments of the match.
The game ended 3 - 3 and with only an end of season friendly against BT remaining, Dub can reflect on a season of ups and downs culminating in two quarter final appearances and a mid table finish in the league. Finally the club has a trophy for it's supporters with the fair play trophy (and guaranteed entrance to the intertoto cup) due to be paraded in front of the non-trophy winning BT boys on Saturday the 13th May.
