A goal each half was enough to give Dub a crucial win against fellow strugglers Mona Star. Despite suspensions and injuries, Dub even had the luxury of someone on the line although the cabbage couldn't work out the whole 'flag' thing. Another master plan from Captain Dickson fell by the wayside as he again lost the toss. The game was fairly close with the Dub midfield dominating play in the first half and the defence staying water tight. Mona were given no time on the ball and eventually Dubs pressure paid off. The ball fell to Andy to the left of the 18 yard box and he crossed to Phil who was completely unmarked with an empty net in front of him. He couldn't miss - seriously. 1 - 0 Dub. The rest of the half was uneventful for the boys in yellow although Mona spent quite a lot of time discussing events with the ref.
Mona began to get more possession as the Dub midfield tired and they created several chances but nothing came of them. Shane came on for the injured Cormac and the frontline was shuffled with Phil dropping into midfield. As Mona pushed forward for an equaliser they left big gaps at the back - one big enough for McGurk to squeeze through as Dickson played a ball through for the wee man. A quick cross saw Hodgy with only the keeper to beat. Not even the wet ground could stop the big man this time and Dub strengthened their lead.
An important win for Dub as they look forward to a weeks break and a clean sheet - that's 2 weeks without conceding a goal (and probably 3 given next weeks lack of fixture - probably).
