Dub coasted through a rather dull first half and managed to score two almost identical goals when Sean Mullan and Donal McCann made breaks from midfield. The first came on 20 mins after some defensive errors from Boca allowed Mullan to latch on to a loose ball and head straight for goal. A Boca defender managed to get a toe to the ball but this only resulted in the ball returning to Mullans feet via a poor clearance from the Boca Keeper. The DUB midfield man slotted home cooly with the outside of his boot. Ten minutes later McCann doubled the lead when he collected a flick on from a long ball and ran straight through the heart of the Boca defense. No defensive toes or keeper mishaps intervened this time though as DUB's leading scorer skilfully curled the ball around the Boca keeper into the gaping net. 2-0. Half time.
Boca started well in the second half, but not so well as to justify the scoreline that was to unfold. Fifteen minutes into the half after soaking up any of the pressure that Boca had to offer, DUB just stopped. Dead. When the DUB keeper rushed off his line to collect what seemed a harmless through ball, the entire DUB team sunk six feet under into the sodden Ormeau pitch as they witnessed the ensuing slip, fumble, and simple side-foot into the big fat cackling mouth of the Gillen goal.....
SECTION OF REPORT REMOVED - FOR TEAM MORAL PURPOSES.
Full-time 6-2. More effort needed, to say the least.
