The latest instalment of Dub's end of season / pre - season schedule saw Dub end victorious despite yet again falling behind in a game they dominated.
Dub started brightly and were unlucky not to find themselves three up within the first twenty minutes. First, a cross come shot from McCann clipped the top of the crossbar and then Kernan was inches away from turning into a cross from the right. Finally a terrific effort from Oakes thundered off the underside of the crossbar before being cleared to safety by the opposition defence.
It wasn't long before Dub secured the lead however, and five minutes later when O'Gorman cut in from the left and unleashed a curling shot just inside the far post, Dub had the lead their early efforts deserved. As always though, it didn't last and a tackle in the box by McCann gave Bangor the opportunity to level the match. Up stepped the Bangor forward to drill the ball with such velocity Dub goalkeeper Plunkett could hear it trickle past as he was diving in the wrong direction.
If that wasn't bad enough, Dub still found time to concede a second before half time as a misdirected clearance from the Dub defence broke to a Bangor player at the edge of the box. A neat one - two later and Dub unbelievably found themselves 2 - 1 down at the break.
Dub manager Kernan delivered his words of wisdom at half time and five minutes into the second half Dub found themselves 3-2 up. A corner played in from the right found O'Gorman unmarked, who made no mistake with the header. Another quick break found Flanaghan breaking through the Bangor defence and bearing down on goal. An unselfish pass found McCann to tap into an empty goal.
Dub were by now well on top and 3-2 became 4-2 seven minutes later when a breakaway from a Bangor corner found McCann on half way. His through ball put man of the match O'Gorman through to round the keeper and slot the ball away for his hat trick. With 20 minutes remaining a defensive mistake by an un-named Bangor defender (Docs!!) let McCann in to make it five.
With bigger gaps appearing in the Bangor defence than between Wayne Rooneys two front teeth, a sixth goal was imminent and duly followed 1 minute later. A through ball from Flanaghan put McCann through again and with no defender within 20 yards 5-2 became 6-2.
At this point Dub manager Kernan made the never before seen substitution of the entire outfield team one by one. The result saw Kristian Hill in the vicinity of the opposition goal much to the delight of the Bangor management. Three chances later and Hills stats still read 300 appearances and no goals. A consolation was scored in the last two minutes by a Bangor forward which remarkably meant that they had scored from every shot on target, a stat that Dub keeper Plunkett surely must be embaressed about!
In the aftermath of the game Dubs statistician (Art) came up with the following mind blowing facts (zzzzzzzzz):
- McCann has hit the crossbar in every match
- "we have scored the first goal in every game and every half (that's 8 halves in a row)- the only thing I can deduce from that is that my team talks have inspired the team"
A long break now follows for Dub before the matches start again. In case anyone might be wondering what the manager might get up to during the break the following might give you an unwanted insight....... In reference to Chris demonstrating his dancing prowess at Ryans wedding I received the following word for word text from Art..........................
" Can you send me that video you have of Chris doing the oompa loompa, piano man song cos I want to get it up tonite".
Take from that what you will lads.
