Man of the match

This weekend saw the conclusion to the Division 2 title as the top 2 played the bottom 2. Dub were up against Collingwood whilst Boca took on CFANI on the neighbouring pitch. Boca had to win to clinch the title but were pushed all the way by an improving CFANI side ? final score 3-2 to Boca. Worse news for Dub came when they found out that they cannot postpone next week's match as it is a cup semi-final and will have to field a depleted side. Dub will have to play without their 62 goal strike force with Phil Doherty getting married on Saturday and Cormac Kernan the best man. Sean Doherty is also suspended and rumour has it that the big man made sure he was suspended so that he can drink on Phil's big day. Most players have vowed not to drink the night before a big match although Ryan McGaughey claimed "I always play better when ther's alcohol in my system!"

As for Sunday's game the management team were looking for a good win, and more importantly another clean sheet. Dub were soon into their stride as they took the lead as early as the 4th minute. Mark Harvey met a Kernan corner well and headed home from short range to open the scoring. Soon after it was 2-0 as Cormac was again the provider, this time for Phil Doherty to finish well. Dub continued to pour on the pressure and another corner resulted in another goal. Dickson caused mayhem in the box with another inswinger and Harvey again finished from short range. In a post match conference, Harvey told reporters that he was happy to get on the score sheet but was concerned that promotion might put an end to his goalscoring days, given that ! he only scores with headers from corners against Collingwood. Within a minute, it was 4-0 as Michael Smyth finshed superbly after Sean Mullan played him in. Michael is Dubs very own Matt Le Tissier ? he only scores screamers. Michael then turned provider as Cormac finally got on the score sheet. Ten minutes later and Cormac finished a great team move. Mark Harvey played the ball out of defence to Dickson who had drifted in from the left. He had time to turn and Cormac timed his run well to get on the end of a through ball before chipping the keeper from outside the box.

Dub finished the half well and looked to expand on their 6-0 first half mauling. Substitutions and bookings disrupted the second half. Sean Doherty started another move from the back, playing the ball up to Dickson who dummied for Phil Doherty to take the ball on and finish coolly from the edge of the box. Shane McCusker then played Cormac in to complete his hat-trick and seal the win at 8-0. Dubs strikers are in lethal form. It was just as well ? with Dickson missing several chances that can only be described as ?gilt-edged?. Dub will finish the season in second place as Boca are now out of reach. Neutrals are a little disappointed that the season will not climax with the last game when the two sides meet. However, there is still the small matter of a cup semi-final next weekend when Dub and Boca meet in the knockout competition. Boca are sure to be on a high and are unbeaten since the 14th September. Dub will not, however, go down without a fight and Cormac Kernan will take time out from writing his speech this week to check the stats to see who can fill his boots. Goalscoring defender Mark Harvey might be just the man!
