A powerful second half display by the Dub has all but guaranteed a quarter final place in the shield for the first time in the clubs history and has raised expectations among the clubs supporters of promotion to the first division, in the upcoming league season.
The determined performance of fast flowing, tough tackling football reflected a cutting edge to Dub?s game so often missing in their outings last season.
The only concern for the management must be how this game remained goalless at half time. A number of spurned opportunities were often down to an over-elaboration in front of goal, a pass when so often a shot at goal would have been the right option, meant that Boca were still in this match at the interval.
The deadlock was eventually deservedly broken on the 55th minute, albeit with a scrappy goal from Chris Hodgkinson, the referee appeared to initially give a free-kick to Boca, but after some gentle persuasion from Sean Doherty he pointed toward the centre circle for the first goal of the game.
The second goal came ten minutes later after a great tackle by Shan McCusker dispossessed one of Boca?s defenders. He followed up the tackle with a great ball to the back post where Cormac Kernan tucked the ball away with his head for Dub?s second goal of the game.
Undoubtedly the turning point in the match Boca?s spirits took a tumble and it was no surprise when Dub scored their third goal of the game with a Sean ?Rocky? Mullan header from McCuskers corner. It was no less than Rocky deserved after a great second half performance which was full of pace and inventiveness in the centre of the park, from the half-time substitute.
An individual goal by Hodgkinson, and a piece of clinical finishing by Cormac Kernan in the 73rd and 80th minute respectively rounded off a great performance by Dub.
All eyes are on the final shield match next Sunday against Deanby to see if Dub can maintain this impressive run, but with so many great footballers yet to taste competitive football this year, waiting in the wings, I for one certainly wouldn?t bet against Dub making it three from three.
